These Trees
Acetone photographic transfer, 12” x 13” I live in the Pacific Northwest and am surrounded by trees. I walk in the forest often. It’s a good place to clear your mind and just feel the peace of the old growth. This quote by Shakespeare, (As You Like it, Scene 3, act 2) struck a chord for me. With our transfer technique using photocopies and acetone I was able to transfer the tree image to 90lb hot-press watercolor paper, a nice surface to take the image and also to write on. I added the words, collaged from various sized letters and transferred in the same way, but drawn over and made clearer with pen. The words are uneven and stacked which seemed fitting along side the tangled, wild tree branches. Dry pastel was pressed into the paper with a cotton pad inside a border for a tinge of color.
