PICK OF THIS WEEK -
Week #31
This work is by
Kate Lehman.
Make the World... much better since I’m taking it in person, and I feel much more confident than I did before. Like many calligraphers, I accumulate papers that I end up considering too precious to work on. This round, handmade watercolor paper was such a piece, but I decided to pull it out for our assignment for “freely written capitals”. I first drew a few guidelines as a general guide to the shape of the letters. After much practice, I then lettered on the paper, being very happy with the way the gouache made such crisp lines on this paper. (I did do a few test letters on the back first.) When the lettering was dry, I used a wedge brush to fill in the side flowers and greenery. I thought maybe the piece was finished at that point, but there was too much white space, especially at the bottom. I took my inspiration from the book from which the quote is taken and used the inspiring and colorful lupines in the book to give the piece a more lush and beautiful look.________________________________________________________ ![]() Active link: https://www.reggieezell.com
