I Can See A Rainbow

The final piece of work for the 26 Seeds 2024 year-long course was brush lettering. The class also involved using colored paper or a background with a design or pattern. We discussed four colored pieces of paper, and I immediately spotted a rainbow. I found a poem about the colors in a rainbow and began working on the lettering, size, and layout. The background pieces are colored pages interwoven at the top and bottom, so the rainbow would gradually change from one color to the next. I used a ¼ inch size 4 Raphael brush with Payne’s Gray Gouache by Da Vinci to complete the lettering.  Once the lettering was done, I cut out the excess paper between the letters using a #11 xacto blade. This was a time-consuming process that required my close attention to each line. I enjoyed the freedom of using the brush. The paper is cream Canson, and the size is 20 x 24 inches.
