I came
across this quote while looking for another, during Reggie’s fabulous
class on lettering inspired by the St. John’s Bible. It’s from the
Ethics of the Fathers, a commentary on the Bible. It immediately made me
think of Reggie, and I decided to write it with some of the letters we
had been studying.
I had also recently taken a short class online
with Susie Berringer, on writing with mica powders, and I loved the look
of the gold I mixed. And I had some papers left over from a book project
that needed some dark blues, which I painted with acrylics, primarily
Payne’s gray. I used a Mitchell #4 nib, and the Pearl-Ex solar gold mica
wrote beautifully on the acrylic background. The quote says it
all: thank you, Reggie, for many years of teaching and inspiration.
