This was conceived at the 2005 Legacies Conference as part of an assignment in one of Gwen Weaver’s classes. I utilized some of Gwen’s lettering styles with carolingian and Roman influences and came up with a funky fun medieval style that I really liked. The use of the translucent sheets gave me quite a few options - what lettering or color to go on top or under the translucent sheets? The Chartham Translucent 205# stock was wonderful to write on with
gouache, unfortunately it’s not made any more but when lightly stained was a good replica for calf vellum!

The text evolved out of the agony of scribal mistakes we all eventually experience! I know there is a demon denoted by scribes for the rash of these misspellings, but I figured there must also be a SAINT to protect us and explain WHY they happen… so out of this I developed a book to fulfill one of Reggie’s year long class assignment on making a book! Text idea and “bastardized” Latin are of my own making too!
