Materials: 1' x 2' sandblasted redwood (pure heart, quarter sawn), gilding, paint, and stain.  Since I knew this piece was going to be sandblasted, I decided to stick with fairly "chunky" letters so that's why I chose to use Blackletter and Neuland. I wanted some of the letters to be positive shapes and come out of the wood and some of the letters to be negative shapes that went into the wood. Once the piece was sandblasted I kept the mask on and airbrushed a dark burgundy color into those negative shapes. Then once the mask was removed, the natural wood showed on the positive shapes however I wanted to lighten the natural wood to create more contrast so I stained it a lighter color. I then added gold leaf to the three important phrases and the cross inside the word God.
