Otche Nash (The Lord’s Prayer)
My studies in Russian Byzantine icon painting led to an invitation
last year to attend a friend’s Russian Orthodox church service,
where I first heard Nikolay Kedrov, Sr.’s beautiful Otche Nash (The
Lord’s Prayer) sung in Church Slavonic. Not long after, I was
inspired to calligraph the hymn, just around the time of one of
Reggie’s class assignments. |
The Church Slavonic script I
chose is based on a typeface from a treasured copy of the Graphic
Masterpieces of Yakov Georgievich Chernikhov, a Russian
Constructivist architect and artist.
Here’s a review of the book, which contains 60 pages of Chernikhov’s
typefaces.
