PICK OF THIS WEEK - 2018 * * * * * * * * * * Week #44 This work was done by Stephanie Chao in San Diego in 2017 for the session “Carolingian and Variations” ” in PRIMITIVE TO MODERN. In her own words: Otche Nash (The Lord’s Prayer) My studies in Russian Byzantine icon painting led to an invitation last year to attend a friend’s Russian Orthodox church service, where I first heard Nikolay Kedrov, Sr.’s beautiful Otche Nash (The Lord’s Prayer) sung in Church Slavonic. Not long after, I was inspired to calligraph the hymn, just around the time of one of Reggie’s class assignments. The Church Slavonic script I chose is based on a typeface from a treasured copy of the Graphic Masterpieces of Yakov Georgievich Chernikhov, a Russian Constructivist architect and artist.
