This was an experimental piece done when
we were learning about using Brazilwood to dye vellum into a rich
burgundy color. Instead, I tried using Angelus leather dye,
Winetone, and came out with this result. It took 2 minutes to apply
the dye with the applicator. The texture of the calfskin was
accentuated and I did not get the velvety finish like Reggie's
samples. |
To test out the surface, I used Finetec golds
for the writing with a folded pen and a pointed pen for some of the
embellishing. The peony was a embossed rubber stamp, painted with
more gold. All my experiment marks held up well on the vellum. Now
the real test will be to see how fugitive this process is compared
to the traditionally dyed method. |
